Quick Review (2016 'Copter)

Wednesday, September 28, 2016

The TimMee Sea King helicopter has finally received its proper military aircraft insignia with the addition of the Star & Bars. This particular insignia was created in 1947 and included new red bars positioned within the existing white bars. It remains the official insignia to this day. The Sikorsky SH-3 began its service in 1961 with the U.S. Navy.
In addition to the 'copter update, a new (and very cool) cyan-blue color has been added to the classic Vietnam Era soldiers
line-up. The castings are crisp with the bare minimum of flash. Now if we could just get the 'copter to match them...just for kicks.

This 26 piece set includes the Sea King Helicopter and 2 dozen M16 soldiers molded in flexible cyan blue color LDPE plastic with very little flashing. The helicopter is approximately 1:48 scale and the figures are 1:35 scale. A new sticker sheet with the Star & Bars insignia is also included.

TimMee "Stryker"

TMA's resident mad scientist is at it again. And this time he's really outdone himself by creating a true TimMee Frankenstein. Included with the photos are his laboratory notes...

I wanted to make a six-wheel APC.  I had a broken XM177, and one missing its wheels.  I sawed the rear panel off one, a the other in two in front of the rear wheel well, and spliced them together with sheet styrene and hot glue.

I was stumped for a long time on armament.  None of the available turrets looked right.  Looking at real world APCs, I noticed that a lot of them have a remote-operated heavy machine gun instead of a turret.  So, I added a pintle-mounted gun looted from a PP jeep.

I capped the 2nd turret hole with a piece of 1/16 inch sheet styrene, cut to fit.  I think it turned out pretty well.

Indeed it did. Reminds ya of the Stryker, doesn't it? This blogger wants a dozen of them...AT LEAST!!!

Thank you, Mr. Mad Scientist.

Just for kicks...

Here's a rendering of what a TimMee Air Force helicopter might look like. Now don't go gettin' all excited. Yours truly was just having a bit of fun. But wouldn't it be perfect for those classic Air Force figures. Throw in a Jeep and ya got yourself a complete playset. Aim high, J. Lloyd!
